HAUNTING THE BETTER

Haunting The Better is an independent company producing, marketing, and distributing movies, books, and other artistic media. It was founded by Hill Rossin in the spring of 1996 and is based in Charleston, South Carolina.

The work runs across thriller, drama, and dark comedy, often within a single project. It's drawn to the places where violence and intimacy sit close together, and to the plain, unglamorous humor of ordinary life. Whatever the form — a feature screenplay, a book, an image — the aim stays the same: to look hard at people without flinching, and without losing the joke.

The company stays small and independent by design. That means keeping a hand on every stage of the work, from the first page to the final cut, and answering to the material rather than to a formula. Projects move at the pace they need to. Some arrive quickly; others sit for years before they're ready.

What ties it all together isn't a genre or a medium but a sensibility — an interest in people at their most exposed, and a refusal to treat that as either tragedy or punchline alone. Usually it's both at once.
